Private Premium Plans
A separate reimbursement account can be set up tax-free through a Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan to reimburse
employees for privately owned health premiums. This account is separate from a medical reimbursement plan and a
dependent care assistance plan and is not meant to include any group health premiums deducted from employee paychecks.
However, only certain types of insurance can be paid for through this account. Generally the plan should be a
health plan, it can not accumulate cash value and it can only pay the employee benefits if a specific condition occurs.
Examples include individually owned health, dental, cancer, intensive care or hospitalization policies.
Long-term care insurance CAN NOT be paid for pre-tax through a Section 125 plan.
